Social Distancing 101
In a time of great unknowns…..it’s important now that we lean towards love and compassion.
So, what does this mean?
1. Modelling boundaries and cancellations for others so they feel safe to do the same.
Although there may be financial risks to all, know that we are all in the same boat and that the world is uniting to support one another.
2. Connecting with yourself and your loved ones through various acts of love.
For me, this will mean tidying up the house, getting to that closet I’ve been avoiding, doing some work on my passion project, cooking healthy meals, calling my parents regularly and getting out in nature.
3. Show kindness for people who need it.
Motivation to engage in selfish acts of behaviour is high, but as best you can, resist the urge and think about how you can support someone else today. This may look like picking up groceries for people who are at higher risk of infection, let someone in front of you in the line, pay for someone’s bill, etc. Through modelling kindness we see a ripple effect emerge, and in times like this, we desperately need it.
4. Support local businesses.
They are struggling and need the income to feed their families and pay their bills too. Do some research in your community, choose your favourite restaurant, brewery, clothing shop and see if you can purchase a gift card. Unlike many, small business owners don’t have the luxury of paid leave when their doors are forced to close.
5. This will pass if we all do our part as a collective.
Social distancing is not forever, and just because we are isolated does not mean we need to be alone. Now that we are being told to stay home and keep our distance, all we want to do is connect with our people. We want to be more social than ever because it is comforting to come together when we are feeling helpless and uncertain of the future. It’s only normal and I am right here with all of you!
These are just five things I am working on right now - in times where anxiety is high and the future is unknown. The upcoming weeks are really important for us here in Canada and for all those around the world. Keep on shining your light but instead of in a room of people, do it from your couch and enjoy this downtime the universe has handed us.
xoxo, Nicole
