🔍 My Why: During my senior year of high school I discovered a passion for psychology, more specifically the inner workings of the human mind and how the processes of our brains affect how we connect with the world, our relationships and even ourselves. As I continued on with my university studies, I came across the field of behavior analysis. Right from the onset I felt like I had found a person-centered approach committed to real progress. Behavior analysis allowed me to understand my clients and myself at a completely different level. I valued the evidence based approach and was inspired by other dedicated professionals in this field. I I found myself drawn to behavior analysis as an approach as the whole focus was how to adjust the environment to help create safe spaces and teach skills to improve the quality of life of my clients, as well as help them thrive.
👩🎓 Professional Journey: I began my journey working with neurodivergent individuals as a bus aid during a summer job. I found myself invested in the students I supported and knew I could do more for them, I just needed to learn more. From there, I continued working with neurodivergent individuals as a behaviour interventionist, expanding my skill set through the support of my supervisors and joining a variety of teams where I supported clients at home, school, clinics, and daycare. The diversity in settings and clients has provided me with a varied set of skills, mainly fostering my curiosity so that I always am bettering my practice so I can provide the best care and support for my current and future clients. I eventually shifted to private services where I found amazing support, supervision and mentorship with YBG.
🎯 Specialization: I center my practice around supporting my clients in self-advocacy, recognizing and creating environments to support regulation and fostering the development executive functioning skills. I am passionate in helping both the child, families and caregivers understand my client’s unique experience of the world and embrace flexibility and compassion when providing support. I am currently in the midst of completing a condensed course learning ASL and I am excited to implement these skills with my clients very soon!
🔑 The key to building strong and trusting relationships: I like to approach building strong relationships with my clients through a place of curiosity. I recognize that I do not know everything and I connect with both parents and the child to ensure that I am using their knowledge and perceived experiences to inform my approach to support.
🌈 My Approach is Client-Focused: I adopt this approach when supporting families. My central goal is to prioritize the unique needs of each client and to ensure that the behavioural strategies implemented help enhance their quality of life.
🎵 Beyond the Office: When I am not connecting with my clients you will find me covered in dirt enjoying every second spent in my garden!
